Title: Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders in the Pediatric and Young Adult Population. 

Course Synopsis: Is your child (or patient) a picky or messy eater? Do they toss and turn all night, snore, or walk around with an open mouth? If the answer is yes to one or all of these questions you may be surprised to know this can greatly impact their health in so many ways! We often do not think about it but, the muscles in and around our mouth and face are critical for many of our basic human functions. When these muscles are not working correctly or in the way they are meant to, they can negatively impact the body. A child who mouth breathes, drools, snores, grinds, has malocclusion, etc. can all be red flags of a possible orofacial myofunctional disorder also known as OMDs. OMDs can impact many areas of their lives such as sleep, attention, and mood.

Objectives: 1. Provide overview of orofacial myology

2. Understand how to screen for OMDs starting tomorrow by using breathe institutes Fairest 6

2. Understand impact OMDs have in airway/breathing, sleep, speech, feeding/swallowing, etc. (concentration, brain development,school performance)

3. Best communication and collaboration practices with other healthcare providers to ensure appropriate comprehensive care.
